Ransomware Attack Targets Point32Health of Massachusetts
Point32Health, a health insurer in Massachusetts, fell victim to a ransomware attack on April 17, impacting systems that support Harvard Pilgrim Health Care commercial and Medicare Advantage Stride plans (HMO)/(HMO-POS). This attack forced the organization to take systems offline to contain the incident.
Point32Health has reached out to Providers, this week, with an update on the ransomware incident. The insurer states, they are “continuing [their] active investigation and conducting extensive system reviews and analysis” before resuming normal business operations.
The investigation has identified signs that data was copied and taken from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care systems between March 28, 2023, and April 17, 2023. Per the update, it has been “determined that providers who are contracted with Harvard Pilgrim may have been potentially impacted, as well as former and current subscribers. The files in question may contain providers’ Social Security Numbers and taxpayer identification numbers.
“Point32Health has communicated to its Provider partners that they should continue providing care to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care members during this ongoing incident and services will becovered.” Providers can direct questions to the Point32Health Provider Service Center by email at provider_callcenter@point32health.org.
